This exercise is a great one to either strengthen or ‘wake up’ your neck muscles. The exercises here are isometric in nature; meaning that the muscles are contracting, but there is no motion of the joints that are designed to move.
Start with your hands on your forehead and push your head down with the same force that you resist with your hands. There should be no motion of your head into flexion (just the contraction of your muscles) and hold for 10 seconds.
Next, put your hands on the back of your head and do the same thing while pushing back. Once again your head and neck should not move, but stay neutral.
Place your hand on the side of your head and push to the side while resisting with your hand and hold for 10 secs again. Do this on both sides to work the muscles on both sides of your head.
Finally, put your hand on the side of your face and rotate into your hand, resisting equally with your hand so the muscles contract as if in rotation but do not allow for the motion.
